Mobile phones are great. Today mobiles give so much more than the ability to call and be called. Depending on the make and model, you can surf the internet; keep your files and pictures on your phone; and even take pictures and videos. Of course as you might imagine such phones do no come cheap. Therefore it may make sense to ensure that you have your mobile phone adequately protected with phone insurance policy.

Why take out protection for your mobile?

You do not have to pay out a fortune to have cover and peace of mind:

1 phones today are typically lightweight and small which means they could be more susceptible to damage. For example, your phone might be pulled out of your pocket accidentally if you go rummaging in your pocket and it may end up on the floor broken;

2 it may be pinched;

3 your phone might generally get damaged if water spills on it or if it is accidentally droped in the sink or bath;

4 your mobile phone may break down after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired

The above are just some of the circumstances that might generally mean you have to replace or have your mobile phone repaired. If you fail to have insurance the costs for repair or replacement are down to you. However, with insurance to rely on these costs are typically met, providing your claim is successful and subject to any policy excesses and policy limits.

When looking for insurance you also need to ensure that you check out the small print. Not all mobile phone policies offer the same protection and special conditions may apply – for example generally the iPhone is not covered for accidental loss, so always read the small print.

Other considerations

You may be lucky enough to get a policy that covers your data if something happens to your phone.

You should think to check out where in the world the coverage extends to.If you travel outside of the UK a great deal you need to ensure you have cover for that too. Some gadget insurance policies do provide worldwide cover, so look out for these if you are likely to take your phone away with you.

Usually the manufacturer will cover the phone for so long after purchase. However, once this expires, any cost incurred due to a malfunction of the phone will have to be paid for by you, leaving you to look for the money for repairs. Some mobile phone insurance policies will step in after your manufacturer’s warranty expires, providing you with extra peace of mind for as long as you keep the phone and how long
